It’s been awhile.. Well, it’s been years since I posted here. It was long enough that there’s already a new 10th anniversary iPhone.
I’ve been a switcher to Plus size iPhone since the 6 Plus. Right now I’m using the 7 Plus which I got early this year and was fairly new from September of 2016. But Apple just decided to have a special edition iPhone this year which is now called the iPhone X. The iPhone X is thinner and shorter than the Plus and a little bit taller and wider against the iPhone 6, 7 and 8 models.
I just can’t hide the fact that it’s an interesting phone for an upgrade path in the far future (hopefully I can hold on). So with some extra time and quick compositing, I took the actual photos from Apple’s comparison page and made this overlay mock-ups.
Based from the mock-up above, I can say that if you are accustomed by the actual frame size of the iPhone 6, 7 and 8 you will love the X model with a bonus of bigger screen and higher resolution. And if you love the Plus size models just like me, you will be tempted because the (tad) narrower screen could be a good compromise for a better hand holdable / pocketable experience.
As of this writing, I’m really not looking forward on upgrading to it anytime but the 4K 60fps video is tempting since I use my iPhone 7 Plus sometimes for video work as our C / B cam. Other than that, I can live with my 7 Plus for the meantime.
Note: I hope Apple’s photos are in the same ratio of each of the models so that this mock-up will give us a near accurate estimate of the size differences.
Apple teased the September 9 event with a “Wish we could say more” line. The event is believed to be the unveiling of the new iPhone which happens every year during September. If you’ve been following the tech blogs chances are you’ve already seen the leaked iPhone 6. Rumors says that there will be two versions of the iPhone, one with 4.7 in screen and the other one is 5.5 in.
I’m very excited with the announcement since I’m due for a re-contracting this coming January and my iPhone 5 really needs a replacement because of its damaged screen panel.
Theres a rumored “iWatch” too so this event is will be a packed one if its true. This rumored “iWatch” doesn’t excite me much but if it can call, shoot photo, monitor my health independently then my money will probably negotiate.
Apple may finally be releasing iOS 8 on this event if not today maybe within this week. We’ll see!
This Apple event will start at 10:00 AM Pacific time on September 9 so here in Philippines it will be on September 10 at 1:00 AM.
So Apple please say more and excite us!

Foursquare app on iOS now forces us users to checkin with Swarm. While Swarm’s is entertainingly good but honestly don’t like it. For me, the Foursquare app is more useful because of its tips and the UI is more intuitive. But it looks like Foursquare is is about to kill its original app anytime this year. If ain’t broke don’t fix it right Foursquare? I believe there will be user backlash here.
Anyway if this is inevitable then just bring back the private checkin and I’ll be happy.
Get ready book worms this might save you a lot of $$$ because of the rumored $9.99 per month subscription fee. For me I’m only after in some e-books and e-magazines hope it will carry a lot of publishers. We are still not sure of what will Amazon will offer and if will be available in the Philippines.
If you find Adobe Photoshop to be expensive and overwhelming. You might want to check Pixelmator for the Mac. It has the essential features of a photo and graphic software. The UI is abosolutely gorgeous too!
Try it for 30 days

Waze version 3.2.2 iOS update is out. Auto typing completion will soon hit your search box. Waze simplified the menus too which I think a very wise UI tweak. This is rather minor but very helpful update and if you are like me who use Waze on a daily basis this is a very welcome improvements. Continue reading Simplified Waze Update
Twitter has been busy since its IPO offerings. They are trying a lot of new features to its platform. Today version 6.0 of its iOS app comes out.

Unfortunately Tweetbot will still be my primary Twitter client.

Facebook’s Instagram now adds 15 seconds video recording. The famous all-in-one social sharing app will be going head to head with Twitter’s Vine app.
Just like Vine the Instagram video can record and pause so you can ‘film’ several cut scenes without even touching a post-production app. Aside from this, it also features 13 filters that will provide your clips a ‘cinematic’ or ‘nostalgic’ feel.
Unfortunately the recording feature is only available on iOS. Android version will surely follow soon.
For me, I feel Vine’s 6 seconds is more practical. Time will tell who will win this battle
Android version of Instagram (4.0) now has video too
This morning I was looking for a location in Google Maps. The site prompted me if I’m interested on trying the new Google Maps which was revealed last Google I/O. Few hours later here it is, the new Google Maps. Some thoughts, the search bar is more visible now, colors are more muted. By hovering on the photos below you can now see some animated annotation pertaining to the location of the photo on the map. Continue reading New Google Maps (2013)

Microsoft has just announced its XBOX One (thankfully not 720) the next gen console after the well-loved 360. It is now an entertainment system that can play Blu-ray and of course digital medias thru its internal HDD.
The 8-core powered media entertainment console will surely drive the heat with the impending release of Sony’s PS4. This makes the famous gaming consoles not for playing alone, and this may impact the standalone market of media players, well if this will be sold cheap.
I’m really excited for both systems the XBOX One and the Sony PS4. But since we already have the PS3 the Kinect technology has been lingering around my head for quite some time. Maybe this is the opportunity to try since Microsoft said it has next gen of Kinect technology.
Microsoft’s announcement is still just a teaser and will most likely reveal the full details including the price and release date at E3 2013 in June. For now, you can read the basic details at the XBOX One site.

Google Talk a.k.a. Gtalk is now gone. Last week at the Google i/o event, Google launched its unified messaging app called Hangouts. It is part of Google’s strategy in streamlining its overlapping products. Hangouts is capable of sending and receiving images and videos. It is now also the messaging app to handle video calls.
Hangouts is planning on to be the 1-for-all messaging and video calling needs. It is available on both Android and iOS including on desktop PC’s.
One of the cool features is the Hangouts On Air – think Ustream.
You can read more about Hangouts here
Few weeks ago I attended the launching of new products from LG. The first thing hit my mind when I receive the invite was that, does LG know that I’m in the market of buying a new TV? Well, of course its pun intended. For the past 4 weeks that our TV died from the adventures of youngest son, I’ve been researching and wanting a new television.
LG Philippines announced its new TV’s specifically the LA series models.Surprisingly the monster 84″ LG Ultra HD TV (worlds first Ultra HD TV) was in the holding area. That ultra sharp 84″ incher TV was showing a series of excellent photographs, I can’t hide the fact that It would be fantastic to have that kind of huge screen at home and I also imagined that at this size 4k footages will be as detailed as the demo’ed photographs. But after hearing the price, all the dream to have an ultra monster TV became an impossible thought. Continue reading LG Philippines New Smart Appliances

Aside from the Mini, the 4th gen New iPad was also released. You’ll also notice that the new thin iMac’s is available for order.
Its a nice Christmas gift for those who are waiting for these devices to be available here in Manila.
Hong Kong and Singapore are the countries to be included in the first batch of iPhone 5 release this September 21 and these countries are the only ones who sell factory unlocked units among Asian countries. There are no prices yet posted on Apple Store Hong Kong site so I headed to Apple Store Singapore to check. Here are the prices without GST.
Conversion rate at $SG1 = Php33.90 (Singaporean dollars converted to Philippine pesos)
- 16GB – Php 32,140
- 32GB – Php 36,886
- 64GB – Php 41,972
I suspect an October release of the iPhone 5 here in the Philippines because both Globe and Smart made some teaser on their websites.
